Random Screen Savers - The Windows 3.1 Screen Saver Series Version 2.0 Installation Notes January 28, 1994 Copyright (c) 1992-1995 David A. Feinleib >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Note: Please see the help file for further documentation beyond what is available in this reade file. >>>> Introduction Windows 3.1 comes with several screen savers, but it requires you to choose one of those savers to run; unlike other commercial screen saver packages, it does not allow you to use multiple randomly selected screen savers. RandScrn is a Windows 3.1 screen saver that allows you to select your favorite screen savers. RandScrn will then alternate among the savers you have chosen automatically, switching from one screen saver to another either after a specified number of seconds or each time RandScrn becomes active. In addition, RandScrn allows you to select a screen saver directory so that you can put all your screen savers in a directory other than your Windows directory should you choose to do so. RandScrn is part of the Windows 3.1 Screen Saver Series, which also includes a number of additional screen savers. In addition, RandScrn allows for "Activation Corners" which permits activation of screen savers simply by moving your mouse into the screen corner that you specify. For more information on RandScrn, Activation Corners, and the other screen savers, please see the help file (named sslib.hlp). >>>> Installing RandScrn To install RandScrn, you must copy (at least) the following files to your Windows directory: randscrn.scr ssactive.exe sslib.dll sslib.hlp These are the base file for a Windows 3.1 Screen Saver Series installation. The other screen saver files (*.SCR) may also be copied to your Windows directory or may be placed in another subdirectory of your choice. For easiest use, it is recommended that you copy them to your Windows directory. The file SSCOOKIE.DAT is used by the Fortune Cookie screen saver. You may place it in a subdirectory of your choice; the Fortune Cookie screen saver looks for the file in your Windows directory by default but otherwise you may change the directory and filename by using the Setup button in RandScrn. >>>> Using RandScrn Once you have copied the appropriate files, from the Program Manager run the Control Panel. Then select the Desktop icon. In the section labeled "Screen Saver" select "Random Screen Savers" and then select the Setup button. If you need further assistance, simply click on the help button from the Setup dialog. >>>> Registration The Windows 3.1 Screen Saver Series is ShareWare. Please register by sending $16 to the address below. Please add $4 for shipping and handling inside the U.S. and $6 for S&H for internation orders. You will receive the latest version of RandScrn and your personal registration information (which will remove the reminder message from the program). Thanks for supporting the ShareWare concept!
